How Much Do Dental Implants Cost in the UK, and Why Do Prices Vary So Much?

If you've started researching dental implants, you've probably noticed that prices vary enormously from one clinic to the next. That can be confusing, and it's one of the most common things patients ask us. The honest answer is that implant treatment is priced for your individual case, and a headline figure doesn't always show what's included.

What affects the cost of dental implants

  • The number of implants needed. Replacing one tooth is a different treatment from replacing several, or an entire arch.

  • Preparatory treatment. If there isn't enough bone to support an implant, you may need a bone graft first. Active gum disease must also be treated before implants are placed.

  • The type of restoration. A single crown, a bridge and a full-arch solution each involve different materials and laboratory work.

  • Planning and imaging. Careful 3D planning helps place the implant accurately, and how a clinic does it affects both cost and outcome.

  • Anaesthesia and sedation options.

  • Clinician training and experience, which is a real part of what you're paying for in a surgical procedure.

Why two quotes can look so different

Two quotes that look similar on paper may cover quite different things. One might include the consultation, scans, the implant, the abutment, the crown and follow-up care. Another might quote only for the implant post, with everything else added later. Before comparing prices, make sure you're comparing the same scope of treatment.

Questions worth asking before you commit

  • Does the quote cover every stage, from planning and scans through to the final crown?

  • Are scans and planning carried out in the clinic, or referred elsewhere (and charged separately)?

  • Who will place the implant, and what is their training and experience?

  • What happens if something needs adjusting or doesn't go to plan, and is any follow-up included?

  • What are the aftercare and maintenance costs?

Get a clear estimate for your case

The only way to know what your treatment would cost is to have it assessed. At consultation, we carry out a full examination and CBCT scan in-house, then give you a clear, itemised estimate before any treatment begins, so you know exactly what you're agreeing to.
