How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

It's one of the first practical questions most new patients want answered. Our Orthodontic Therapist, Thais Do Prado, gives a clear answer with the caveat that it genuinely depends on your starting point.

The General Range: 6 to 18 Months

Most Invisalign treatment plans fall between six and eighteen months, depending on the complexity of the case. This wide range exists because Invisalign is used for everything from very minor cosmetic adjustments to more involved bite corrections.

Minor Cases Can Be Faster

For patients with relatively minor misalignment, slight crowding or small gaps, for example, treatment can sometimes be completed in under six months, particularly where only a small number of teeth need movement.

At the other end of the spectrum, more severe or complex bite corrections can take around two years to complete. These cases typically involve a greater number of teeth needing movement, larger corrections, or bite relationships that need to be addressed gradually and carefully.

What Affects Your Personal Timeline

The complexity and severity of your starting misalignment or bite issue

• How consistently you wear your aligners for the recommended 20–22 hours a day

• Whether refinement aligners are needed toward the end of treatment

• How your individual teeth respond to planned movements, which can vary from patient to patient

Getting an Accurate Timeline for Your Case

Because timing depends so heavily on individual factors, the only reliable way to know how long your treatment will take is a full assessment with your orthodontic therapist or dentist, who can review your specific bite and teeth and give you a personalised estimate as part of your treatment plan.
